Sold: 75-year-old Birmingham Fish & Chip Shop

This Is Bedders, a family run fish and chip shop and Birmingham institution, has been sold to new owners in a deal facilitated by Altius Group.

Operating from its prominent Coventry Road trading position, the fish and chips restaurant and takeaway has served locals since 1946. The business underwent refurbishment in 2015 and has a superb 66 cover dining area.

The business enjoys its success and loyal following despite only opening from limited lunchtime hours of 11.30am – 2pm from Monday to Saturday with a Friday teatime service.

The building operates from a superb three-storey semi-detached building. The ground floor contains the shop and restaurant premises and spacious self-contained living accommodation on the first and second floors.

The owner instructed Altius in the sale due to wanting to retire. The business was offered to the market for only the second time in its history.

The new owner, a first-time buyer, was attracted to purchase This is Bedders due to the popularity in the local area and being in the right location. The new owner intends to expand and grow the business.

Our client said, “I am pleased with Altius and would like to give a special thanks to our negotiator who was very efficient and a pleasure to work with. She kept us updated every step of the way with the progression of the sale and the service was spot on. My whole family are pleased they can move on from the business now, and I wish the new owners the best of luck.”

When asked what qualities they were looking for in the right buyer they replied, “Mainly someone who would keep the business running, and who would build a good relationship with the locals and customers. I’m very happy with the sale and would absolutely recommend Altius.”

Our Expert Sales Negotiator said, “I am so pleased we were given the opportunity to sell this business for our vendor. Both seller and purchaser were on board to push the sale through as quickly and efficiently as possible and all worked very well together. I wish both parties the best of luck with their future endeavours.”
